The owner of a VW Passat B8 with a 2.0 TDI DDAA engine producing 190 hp and 400 Nm contacted us. The car had received a Stage 1 engine update (235 hp, 490 Nm) and a DSG6 DQ250 Stage 2+ update from a third-party company. The customer complained of dips in torque when accelerating, with the car’s throttle response wavering and instability. The DSG6 transmission was experiencing a very strong metallic thump when starting with launch control, as well as vibration in certain modes. The customer spent a significant amount of time identifying and diagnosing the cause of the thumps, and all engine mounts were replaced, but ultimately, it turned out to be a faulty DSG firmware. We reverted the engine and transmission to stock, verified there were no issues, performed a Stage 1 update while maintaining all engine safety systems, and optimized the DSG transmission. The car drove with predictable linear dynamics, without dips or artifacts.
