The owner of a VW Tiguan with a 2.0 TDI DFHA engine contacted us. The car had been reprogrammed by a third-party company. The customer complained about the lack of particulate filter burnout, although he had only requested that AdBlue be disabled. We performed a diagnostic test on the car, and his concerns were confirmed: the particulate filter hadn’t burned out for over 2,000 km. This is a very common occurrence: incorrectly disabled AdBlue systems. Continued driving with such a faulty firmware could lead not only to particulate filter failure but also to turbocharger and engine damage. We returned the car to stock condition, properly disabled AdBlue, and regenerated the particulate filter. The customer was very pleased that we managed to do this before the particulate filter failed.
